How can we help?

Find answers about recording a GPS trail, exporting a GPX file, and matching camera photos in Lightroom Classic—or contact Shutter Trail support.

Recording in the background

For background recording, allow Shutter Trail to access your location Always. Standard mode uses battery-efficient significant location changes while the app is in the background. High Accuracy keeps an active, more precise background recording session and uses more battery.

If the trail stops updating

  • Confirm that Record Trail is enabled in Settings.
  • Open iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Shutter Trail and choose Always.
  • Enable Precise Location if you use High Accuracy.
  • Do not force-quit the app while you expect background recording.
  • Open Recording Health inside Shutter Trail to inspect the active location services.

Recording without internet

GPS trail recording does not require an internet connection. Shutter Trail stores recorded locations on your iPhone, including in remote areas without cellular service. Map imagery may require available or previously cached map data.

Exporting to Lightroom Classic

Create a Trip for the desired time range, preview its trail, and export the GPX file. For easier automatic geotagging, use the free Shutter Trail Lightroom plug-in to match selected photos with recorded locations while accounting for each photo’s UTC offset.

Contact support

Email shuttertrail.support@gmail.com and include your iPhone model, iOS version, Shutter Trail version, and a short description of what happened. You can also open a public GitHub issue, but do not post private location data or GPX files there.
