Shutter Trail

Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective July 21, 2026

Your GPS trails stay on your iPhone until you choose to export them. Shutter Trail does not upload your location history to our servers.

Information Shutter Trail uses

With your permission, Shutter Trail uses precise or approximate location information—including coordinates, timestamps, altitude, speed, course, and accuracy—to display your position, record trails, build trip previews, and create GPX exports.

Background location

If you grant Always location access, Shutter Trail can record while the app is in the background. High Accuracy uses continuous precise background updates and may display the iOS background location indicator. You can disable High Accuracy, stop trail recording, change location permission, or turn off Location Services at any time.

Storage and sharing

Recorded trails, indexes, trip definitions, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. Shutter Trail does not upload your location history to our servers. A GPX file leaves the app only when you choose to export it through the iOS share sheet; the destination you select then handles that file under its own privacy practices.

Notifications

If you enable recording reminders, Shutter Trail schedules local notifications on your device. These reminders do not require your trail history to be sent to us.

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics to understand visits and improve its content. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, device and browser details, referral source, and interactions with the website. Google may process this information according to the Google Privacy Policy. The Shutter Trail iPhone app does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell personal information.

Apple services

The app relies on Apple services such as Core Location, MapKit, notifications, the share sheet, and App Store distribution. Apple may process information under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Data retention and deletion

Your recorded data remains on your device until you remove it using Shutter Trail’s data-cleanup controls or delete the app. Files exported to another app or service must be deleted separately from that destination.

Children’s privacy

Shutter Trail does not knowingly collect personal information from children or other users. GPS trails remain on the device unless the user chooses to export them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The revised policy will appear here with a new effective date.
